Dr. Courtney Page-Tan is an incoming Assistant Professor of Public Affairs & Community Resilience at The O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI. She was previously an Assistant Professor of Human Resilience in the Department of Security and Emergency Services at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a former Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Social Science at Wesleyan University and has a Ph.D. in Political Science from Northeastern University.
Dr. Page-Tan is dedicated to cultivating partnerships with practitioners, industry leaders, policymakers, community leaders, and academic institutions to build resilient ecosystems. She leverages her background in social capital, resilience, public policy, information communication technology, and GIS to explain how governments, NGOs, private sector entities, urban planners, and individuals can build resilience. Her research advances knowledge in how online and offline social ties mitigate the adverse outcomes of unexpected shocks and short- and long-term environmental stressors. She has contributed to the United Nations' flagship disaster risk reduction (DRR) report and consulted for The City of Cambridge, Massachusetts, ISeeChange, U.N. Development Programme - Paraguay, and U.N Development Programme - Mexico. Her research has been supported by grants and funding from diverse sources, from federal government entities, including the Department of Homeland Security; local governments such as The Mayor’s Special Advisory Committee on Neighborhood-Based Resilience in the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts; private sector partners, such as ISeeChange and Nextdoor; and research institutions, such as the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado - Boulder. Her publications to date have been featured in Global Environmental Change: Human and Policy Dimensions, Scientific Reports, International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, Disasters, Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Natural Hazards, Social Science & Medicine, International Risk Governance Council Resource Guide on Resilience, Economics of Disasters and Climate Change, Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Natural Hazard Science, Climate Science: Oxford Research Encyclopedias, and Asian Politics and Policy. |
